QuillShelfLog
QuillShelfLog is an offline reading tracker and personal library organiser: you catalogue the books you own, log your progress through them, rate and review what you finish, set a yearly reading goal, and watch your stats and streaks build up. This page explains what the app does and does not do with your data.
QuillShelfLog does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information.
Information we collect
None. There is no sign-up, no login and no user account. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, location or any other identifying detail. The display name and avatar colour you can optionally set for your profile are stored only on your device and are never sent anywhere.
Data stored on your device
To make the app work, QuillShelfLog stores the following only on your device, using the operating system's local storage:
- Your library — every book you add: title, author, genre, page count, cover colour, shelf status, star rating, review text and favourite flag.
- Reading activity — the page counts you log and the dates you logged them, used to draw your progress bars, weekly and monthly charts, and current and longest streaks.
- Your profile — an optional display name, an avatar colour, and the date you first opened the app.
- Preferences — your yearly reading goal, library sort order, display toggles, and a flag recording that you have seen the onboarding screens.
This is held in three local Hive boxes plus a small number of system preference entries. This data never leaves your device. It is not uploaded to QuillShelfLog or to any third party. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes all of it permanently.
Permissions
QuillShelfLog requests no runtime permissions at all — no camera, location, microphone, contacts, photos, notifications or storage-access prompts. The iOS build declares no usage-description keys because it needs none.
The Android package declares the standard INTERNET permission that ships with the default Flutter application template. The app contains no networking code and makes no network requests, so this permission is unused. It is disclosed here for completeness.
Network use
QuillShelfLog is fully offline. It does not connect to any server, API or third-party endpoint. Nothing is uploaded, downloaded or synced, and the app behaves identically with no internet connection at all.
There is one thing you can send out, and only deliberately: the stats screen has a Share action that hands a plain-text summary of your reading figures to your device's own share sheet. Whichever app you then choose — messages, email, notes — receives that text and handles it under its own privacy policy. Nothing is shared unless you tap Share and pick a destination.
Third-party services
None. QuillShelfLog integrates no analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting SDK, no cloud database and no billing or in-app purchase library. It is built on open-source Flutter packages for local storage, charts, layout, animation and the system share sheet; none of them transmit your data anywhere.
Children's privacy
QuillShelfLog is suitable for readers of all ages. Because it collects no personal information and transmits nothing off the device, it satisfies children's privacy regimes such as COPPA and GDPR-K by design — there is no data for us to hold, and therefore nothing a parent could need to request the deletion of.
Your rights
Your data never leaves your device, so control of it is already entirely yours. Every book, review, rating and reading-log entry can be edited or deleted inside the app at any time, and uninstalling QuillShelfLog permanently erases everything it stored. We hold no copy, so there is no access, export or deletion request to send us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page will be revised. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
