CinemaShelfLog

Last updated: 2026-07-31

CinemaShelfLog is an offline film diary that keeps your watchlist, your in-progress films, your scores and your notes on your own phone. This policy describes what CinemaShelfLog does and does not do with your data. The short version: CinemaShelfLog does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information.

1Information we collect

None. There is no account, no sign-in and no registration of any kind. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts or any other identifying detail. The display name and avatar you can set for your profile inside the app are optional, are never verified, and never leave your device.

2Data stored on your device

To make the app work, CinemaShelfLog stores the following only on your device, using the operating system's local storage:

  • Your shelf — which films you have put on the watchlist, marked as watching, or logged as watched, along with the date you logged them.
  • Your scores and notes — the half-star or ten-point rating you give a film and any free-text note you attach to it.
  • Your profile — an optional display name, a chosen avatar, and the date you first opened the app.
  • Your settings — weekly goal, grid or list view, ten-point scale toggle, shelf sort order, the hide-note-previews (spoiler) toggle, and whether runtimes show as hours.
  • Accolades — which of the thirteen accolades you have unlocked and when.

This is held in two local Hive boxes inside the app's private storage. The film catalogue itself ships inside the installed app and is not downloaded. This data never leaves your device. It is not uploaded to CinemaShelfLog or to any third party. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes all of it permanently.

3Permissions

CinemaShelfLog requests no runtime permissions at all — no camera, location, microphone, contacts, photos, notifications or storage-access prompts. The iOS build declares no usage-description keys because it needs none.

The Android package declares the standard INTERNET permission that ships with the default Flutter application template. The app contains no networking code and makes no network requests, so this permission is unused. It is disclosed here for completeness.

4Network use

CinemaShelfLog is fully offline. There is no server, no backend, no API and no sync. Nothing is uploaded, downloaded or synchronised, and the app behaves identically in flight mode.

One thing can leave the app, and only when you choose it: the stats screen has a Share action that passes a short plain-text summary of your figures to your device's own share sheet. Whichever app you pick from there receives that text and handles it under its own privacy policy.

5Third-party services

None are integrated. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising network, no attribution platform, no crash reporter, no cloud database and no billing or in-app purchase library. The app is built on open-source Flutter packages for local storage, charts, layout, animation and the system share sheet; none of them transmit your data anywhere.

6Children's privacy

CinemaShelfLog is suitable for all ages but is not directed at children under 13 in particular. Because it collects no personal information and transmits nothing off the device, it cannot knowingly or unknowingly gather data from a child, and there is nothing held by us for a parent to request the deletion of.

7Your rights

Your data never leaves your device, so control of it is already entirely yours. Every film entry, score, note and profile detail can be edited or deleted inside the app at any time, and uninstalling CinemaShelfLog permanently erases the whole shelf along with your settings and accolades. We hold no copy, so there is no access, export or deletion request to send us and nothing left behind afterwards.

8Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
